Selwyn College Community Education – Speaking with Confidence

Speaking with Confidence is an eight-week adult public speaking course run by Selwyn Community Education at Selwyn College in Kohimarama, Auckland. Designed for fluent English speakers who want to overcome the fear of public speaking, the course covers preparation, content, and delivery across many speaking contexts — from group presentations and event speeches to interviews and impromptu talks. Participants practise delivering short speeches at every class in a supportive environment and receive constructive, step-by-step feedback. Topics include structuring a speech, vocal variety, hand gestures, eye contact, and engaging an audience. A Level 2 follow-on course is also available. The course is TEC-subsidised for qualifying NZ citizens, permanent migrants, and refugees.
