WAO Toastmasters Club (Wrightwood-Ashburn Overcomers)

The Wrightwood-Ashburn Overcomers (WAO) Toastmasters Club (#771880) is an award-winning, goal-oriented, community-based public speaking and leadership development club located on Chicago's South Side. Chartered on March 23, 2005, WAO meets in person on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Wrightwood-Ashburn Chicago Public Library. The club is a 15-time Toastmasters International President's Distinguished club, a 5-time District 30 Top 10 Club, and a 3-time District 103 Top 10 Club. Open to all adults 18 and older with no membership restrictions.

Membership & sessions

Open to all adults 18 years and older with no membership restrictions. Guests may attend any meeting for free with no registration required. To become a member, complete a Membership Application and pay dues to the Vice President of Membership. Toastmasters International dues are $60 USD per 6-month period (paid in April and October), plus a one-time new member fee of $25 USD (effective October 1, 2025). Individual club dues may also apply — contact the club for current rates. Membership includes access to the Pathways learning experience (first path included in the new member fee).

Services: Public speaking practice and coaching, Leadership development, Toastmasters Pathways learning program (self-paced communication and leadership curriculum), Table Topics (impromptu speaking exercises), Prepared speech delivery and evaluation, Peer feedback and constructive evaluation, Mentoring by experienced Toastmasters, Speech contests (club, area, division, district, and international levels), Meeting roles (Toastmaster of the Day, Timer, Grammarian, Ah-Counter, General Evaluator, etc.), Community networking
