The George Washington University Toastmasters Club

The George Washington University (GWU) Toastmasters Club (Club #00791413) is a campus-based chapter of Toastmasters International, founded in 2005. Open to GWU students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members, the club helps members improve public speaking and leadership skills for academic, professional, and personal settings. The club meets hybridly three times per month and is part of District 36, Area B21. It has three Distinguished Toastmasters (DTMs) among its members, including a GWU public speaking professor.

Membership & sessions

Open to GWU students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members — no membership restrictions. Toastmasters International semiannual dues are $60 USD (covering a 6-month period, renewed in April and October). A one-time new member fee of $25 USD applies upon joining. Individual club dues may also apply; contact the club for current local dues. Guests may attend meetings for free before committing.

Services: Prepared speech practice and delivery, Table Topics (impromptu speaking), Peer evaluation and constructive feedback, Toastmasters Pathways education program (communication & leadership tracks), Public speaking contests, Guest speaker sessions on communication and leadership, Leadership role opportunities (club officer positions), Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award pathway, Hybrid meetings (in-person + Zoom)

Membership: 120 USD / yearly

Meeting schedule: 1st Monday, 2nd Tuesday, and 3rd Thursday of each month, 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Hybrid format: in-person at West End Neighborhood Library, 2301 L Street NW, Washington DC, and online via Zoom.
